The origin of artificial flowers

Looking back in history, artificial flowers have a history of at least 1,300 years in China. According to legend, Emperor Xuanzong’s favorite concubine Yang Guifei had a scar on the left sideburn. But in winter, the flowers withered. An ingenious court lady used ribs and silk to make fake flowers for Concubine Yang. Later, this kind of "headdress flower" spread to the folk and gradually developed into a unique handicraft "artificial flower".

In the Qing Dynasty, the artificial flowers made by famous artists in Beijing won prizes at the Panama World Expo. Nowadays, the varieties have grown from dozens of original species to more than 2,000 species, including drama flowers, flower strips, flower baskets, and bonsai. Since the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Beijing has developed into a silk flower production center, so silk flower is also called "Jinghuaer". The famous Huashi Street in Beijing is named after the distribution center for processing "Jinghuaer".
